About Us

Urdu Bazaar started out of a desire to teach our recently-born child his mother tongue, Urdu. Living in the West we see too many examples of children not being comfortable speaking their native language, let alone being able to read or write using it. We are on a mission to change that. While we are starting off with a small, handpicked selection of quality children's Urdu books, we have high hopes and aspirations of bringing you a range of books, magazines and other products for all ages. We hope to kindle within you a desire of reconnecting not just with Urdu but with your culture. 

There are many surprising benefits of teaching children their native language. Not only does it give them a deeper sense of belonging and helps forge closer bonds with their elders, it also increases their self-confidence and contributes to their overall well-being. How many times have we wished for our children to be closer to their grandparents, to be able to not only relate to their stories and experiences but to preserve them and pass them on to their own children. Sadly that is becoming increasingly rare. 

Our children feel isolated from their elders, whether back home or here in the West. The barriers of language and culture prevent our children from absorbing their wisdom and appreciating their life experiences. In this age of smartphones and virtual reality, we are stumbling towards the path of cultural impoverishment -- and our children are all the poorer for it. We should not allow this to happen. 

Join us on this journey to rediscover and appreciate the richness that Urdu has to offer. We have taken but a small baby step, but collectively we can leap forward. At the end of the day, we are nothing but the sum of our intentions, so let us intend, today, to preserve our language and culture and take from it that which is good.
